Handling Holiday Stress

It can be a traumatic time but no matter how hard you try you can’t block the holidays from your radar.

They’ll come with bows and whaznuzels. They’ll come with decorations and snoznuzelers. No matter what you do, you can’t keep them from coming.

OK, you give in to the fact that they come but how can you handle all that needs to be done and enjoy yourself in the process?

Here are some tips that will help you through the holidays, get things done, and enjoy the season:
Everybody Needs Help
Rest. Get plenty of rest. Lack of refreshing sleep is the number cause of stress during the holiday season. Unless you’re fully charged you won’t have much to give family and loved ones.

Set Boundaries. Believe it or not, you’re not Superman or Wonder Woman, so eat the holiday elephant one small bite at a time and only the parts you like. If something is getting to be too much, say so.

When you communicate your desires and set your boundaries as soon as you become aware of an issue the easier it is to maintain the “holiday spirit”. Remember “No” can be your friend.

Prioritize. Set what you’re willing to do for the holidays before they are upon you and then stick to the list. When creating your holiday list, consider that everything will take twice as long as you originally anticipate so plan accordingly and don’t overbook and overwhelm yourself.
Keep these tips in mind to make your holidays and any potentially stressful time happy.
