For those of you who know me, you know I’ve been overweight since dirt was young. You also know I’ve been attempting to lose weight just as long. My mother told me years ago that if I ate more than 900 calories a day (yes, I said 900 calories) I’d gain weight. So, I ate carrots, celery, and cucumbers. No big surprise that I lost weight and no big surprise that I gained it all back and then some just for good measure. I’d exercise up to two hours a day without seeing any results. The husband and I even put in a home gym with all the necessary, and some unnecessary equipment.
After years of this pattern of starving myself and exercising daily without results I was getting very, very discouraged. Not unlike some of you perhaps? I called in the specialists: a personal trainer to make sure I was doing the exercises correctly, I went to the dietician to get a list of the right foods, I took health products to get all the “edge” over my weight I possibly could. I tried the diet and exercise programs you see on late night television. I felt I’d tried everything and NOTHING was working.
Then about a year and a half ago I got reacquainted with a colleague of mine. She’s a personal training and came to the house to put both my husband and me on a program. I told her she was my last attempt at losing weight. At the beginning of her programs she likes her clients to have the test done that measures body composition. She gave us great information including the man that does this testing.
Dave Ryan was one of the first, if not the first, who used the tank method to test for body fat. He has converted the “tank” to a couple of sensors for measuring body composition. The husband and I made the appointment and went to get “tested”. The test is painless and Dave provides us each with a print out of the results so we can track our progress from test to test. I was very discouraged when I saw the results until Dave explained what my body was doing. Like, when I’ve deprived my body of the nutrients it needs, it’ll convert a carrot to fat.
What sets Dave apart is that he’s a chemist, a nutritionist and can set up an exercise program for our schedule and us. This was exactly what I was looking for and what I needed. Someone I can ask my questions to and get the correct information. Not just information that will keep me coming back and spending more money like a lot of other programs do. The printout allows me to see the progress not just what a scale tells me but what my body is doing under the skin that I can’t see. Even though my scale weight hasn’t changed, last year I lost 15 pounds of fat and gained 20 pounds of lean. The average yearly weight loss is 7 pounds and that’s not necessarily just fat.
Until I went on Dave’s program, I didn’t know I jet engine just waiting to start burning fat. And I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t gone to Dave. Even though my scale weight hasn’t changed, yet, I’m still healthier than I’ve ever been.
I’ve sent numerous clients to Dave who want a healthier life style. If you want a healthier you for 2007 I encourage you to call Dave Ryan, 503-516-5590 to make an appointment. His company is BE LEAN: Balanced Enjoyable Living Enhanced by Activity & Nutrition. He also has a newsletter that you can get when you contact him. If you want to get the holidays off your hips call Dave.
